How It All Started
In 2007, Chinese Zodiac Horoscope launched as a hobby project and one of the very first apps on the Facebook platform. After attending Facebook's first developer conference and meeting the team behind the platform, the idea took shape: bring Chinese astrology to the social web in a fun, accessible way. Users could add their zodiac animal to their profile, discover their sign, and interact with friends based on their animals.
The interactions were what made it special. Every animal had its own personality-driven move: a Dragon might breathe fire on you, a Rabbit might snuggle up to you, an Ox might lower its head and charge. It was playful, social, and surprisingly educational — millions of people learned about Chinese astrology for the very first time through those little moments.
At its peak, over 4.5 million people were using the app across Facebook, Friendster, and Bebo. It was one of the first platforms to make Chinese astrology genuinely fun and accessible to a Western audience.
What Changed
Social platforms evolved. The Facebook API changed. Friendster shut down. Bebo faded. The original app quietly wound down along with that era of the social web.
